My Trip To Basel

Yesterday I was feeling somewhat adventurous and I took a train trip to Basel. I know that most people would think I am a bit insane because I did not go to sightsee and look at old churches or something, but rather I went to go and soak up some football atmosphere and have a good time. I also did go to see the football things that they had going on, so if ou want to count that as sightseeing, then I guess that is what I did.

For the train ride, my Twister was kind enough to lend me a book to read. It was a really good book and I did not want to have to get off the train because I wanted to know what happened! Here is a picture of my train. How exciting.

Upon arrival in Basel, I went looking for information about how to get to the fan walk. The information lady gave me a map and told me where I should go. And as I headed outside, I realised how freezing cold it was compared to the train and wished that I had a scarf with me (despite already wearing many layers).

The first thing I went to find was the super football store that I had read so much about. It is the biggest football store out of all the places that are playing host to the Euro and I was luck enough to be going there! It was set up in a huge tent and no joke, it was HUGE.

When you arrive, you have to walk up this path and there is these silhouettes that take "photos" of you and then there are some dressed up like fans. It is like you are the famous football player and they are all in love with you. Then they have the footballs all lined up and the information about them next to them.

The store was like some kind of heaven. It was just full of all football everything and it was a moment of "where do I go first?". I ended up spending an hour in the shop first off and also too much money LOL. And the whole time I was in there, all they played was the best music in the world (and if you know me, then you know what I am talking about).

After finally leaving the store with all my shopping, I then looked to have some lunch. Stupid me only had Euros and then could not find a bank anywhere (like no joke, I looked for ages). Lucky I went to Maccas and they took Euros, then just giving me change in Swiss Francs (which was also a good excuse to have to spend more money later on). So here is what I had for lunch:

After lunch I went walking along the Fan Boulevard. Here is how long I walked for:

It was easy to find the way because the streets are marked with these art things overhead. There are lots of them all along the way and each has a different bit of artwork on them. The photo does not do them justice as they looked so damn cool as I walked along.

I walked to the bridge and over it all the way. The bridge has the big screens on them that they show the games on at night. It was a bit like how they had it in Frankfurt, but the screens are not able to be in the water because the current is too strong. It would have been great to stay there and watch a game as the view and the fan places to sit were so damn cool. If the sun had been out, then I would have stayed, but since it started to rain on my way back to the train it was not really worth it.

After walking the path, I made my way back the way that I had come. I stopped into the gisnt shop one last time (and also I had some money I had to spend because I was not going to be able to at any other time). Then I got on the train to come home. I finished off my book before I was anywhere near Stuttgart.

And that was my trip to Basel.
